Purple Wedding Cake

My friend at work recently got married and I made her wedding cake for her.  She found a picture of what she wanted online, so we went with that.  Even though the pics looked like the cake was a dark blue, it was actually a dark purple.

It was not easy dealing with a cake this large in this awful humidity and heat, but it still turned out nice.  I was very pleased with the final result.

The entire cake is covered in fondant and decorated with edible pearls, real ribbon, and gumpaste calla lillies.

At the wedding, it was so hot that the cake ALMOST melted.  But everyone loved it anyway. :)  Shew... Haha.

Oreo Cupcakes - Yummm.

My boyfriend absolutely loved that oreo cake I made his brother for Father's Day, so I was peer pressured into making cupcakes.  haha  Plus, I had some fabulous cupcake liners I was dying to use for something.

They were deeeee-lish.  I found some recipes online, and combined a little from each to get what worked for me. Even though I've gotten more comfortable with making all of my cakes from scratch, this is what tasted best.   Here is the recipe:

1 - pkg Devil's Food Cake Mix (Pilsbury is my favorite)
1 - pkg instant chocolate pudding
1 - tsp kosher salt
2 - tsp pure vanilla extract
1 - cup sour cream
1 - cup vegetable oil (I always use canola oil)
4 - eggs
1/2 - cup warm water
2 - cups chocolate chips

Bake at 350 degrees 25-30 minutes for a cake or about 18 minutes for cupcakes.

The icing I used is basic buttercream with crushed up oreos.  For my buttercream recipe, visit my Recipes page. :)  Enjoy!

Hunting-Themed Cake

This cake was made for my aunt.  It was her father's 75th birthday and he really loves turkey hunting and deer hunting.  She wanted a sheet cake, so here is what I came up with.

The cake is half vanilla and half chocolate.  The entire cake is decorated in buttercream.  I bought some toy sets that had the figurines to add to the cake.  My favorite part is the camo on the side. :)

Snow White Birthday Bash

A friend of mine at work asked me to make her daughter's birthday cake.  The theme was "Snow White" and she had found a cake online that she liked.  Here's mine.

She also had a great idea to make matching cupcakes that looked like apples.  They were so fun to make!

They are standard sized cupcakes with a half mini donut on top.  I then covered them with icing and dipped them into homemade edible glitter (sugar and food coloring).  Then I added some fondant leaves and stems.

This is definitely one of my favorite cakes!

Happy Father's Day!

I did a couple cakes for Father's Day. The first, of course, is for my Daddy. :)  All he has been talking about is some banana cream cupcakes he had at work one day, so I decided I just had to do a banana cream cake.  The hard part was figured out how to decorate it. haha My Dad (just like every other man alive, I think) loves tools, so I decided to do a toolbox cake.

I just went simple with it, and it turned out pretty good.  He also was glad to have some more banana cake. haha

The second cake I made is for my boyfriend's brother.  His 5-year-old, Connor, asked me to make his dad a surprise Father's Day Cake.  When I asked what kind, he said WIPEOUT.  You know, that show where people do that obstacle course thing and get hit in the face with giant punching gloves? Haha.  So, here is what I did.

Connor really cracked up at the feet.  The cake is oreo cake filled with oreo buttercream.  It was definitely yummy. lol
